Special Celebration of Easter--a Dormitory Clean – up Excercise
Easter is a special season which gives the opportunity to all people to reflect on and share the love, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ - The Saviour. This year’s Easter celebration was observed from the 18th – 20th April, 2014. As part of activities marking the season, seventy (70) students embarked a special and historic clean-up exercise at all Kitchens of the Overseas Students Apartments of Jiangsu University.
The three (3) - hour exercise beginning at about 9 am yielded both positive and productive results. Almost every part of each kitchen namely the walls, shelves, cupboards, drawers, floors, sinks and laundry areas was thoroughly cleaned and disinfected where necessary. Members pulled out drawers, decongested cupboards and shelves, discarded old cooking utensils, scrubbed the sinks, mobbed floors and killed a number of rats while displacing many. Those who cleaned the Teachers’ Apartment extended their work to some bathrooms and toilets since there were adjacent the kitchens.
Though the workload seemed bigger than the numbers present, all participants gave off their best to see the exercise through successfully. Kudos to all who took part.
The logistical support (such as mobs, disinfectants, detergents and hand gloves) provided by the Management of the Apartments under the headship of Ms. Mao and the coordinating efforts of Ms. Wang of the Oversea Educational College (OEC) is highly commendable. It is hope that this noble way of giving back to society or our communities on special occasions like Easter will not be a nine day wonder.
On the whole, it was a historic event. Participants as well as managers of the Apartment could not hide their joy and excitement. Undoubted, not only did the exercise offer fresh air at the kitchens, its impact goes a long way to curtail any possible disease outbreak which could have emanated from the kitchens. Thumbs up to the organizers and support teams! Well-done.
