The First "International Sci-Tech & Culture Exchange Week" for Postgraduates of Jiangsu University

The First "International Sci-Tech & Culture Exchange Week" for Postgraduates of Jiangsu University was held during 16-20 May, 2011.

Prof. Yuan, our president, gave a wonderful speech on the Opening Ceremony. In his words: our ultimate goal of one-hundred-year old Jiangsu University is to construct a first-rate university with unique features. During the process of construction, we stress learning from those top universities in the world, working very hard to broaden our horizon and elevating both academic level and educational capability. Jiangsu University retains a strong link with universities and research institutes in over 30 countries and regions. Focusing on the frontiers of international academic research, Jiangsu University established an important and special research center--Sino-Australian Joint Research Center with Australia National University (ANU), in the field called "Opt-electrical Molecular Functional Materials".

Prof. Yuan emphasized specially that postgraduates are the most important group in our university to help professors to do research work. For the internalization of students, there are two aspects: domestic students go abroad and foreign students come in. To improve the ability of PG students, "Four C" Concept should be beard in mind--Confidence, Communication, Cooperation, and Creation.The way to become "Four C" talents could be "Three Opens"--Open eyes to look at the world, Open mind to think about future and Open mouth to speak English.

On the Closing Ceremony, Prof. Xu Huaxi, our vice president said: "The First Sino-foreign Postgraduate Forum is surely a great success! The most important reason is that our university has had 25 international postgraduates from 10 schools". He is sure that on the Second Sino-foreign Postgraduate Forum, he will participate, and will ask more postgraduates to attend the forum, and invite more professors to join in this meaningful activity.
