OEC Team Won Second Prize in Inter-Medical School Physiology Quiz
It all started in April when IMSA announced for the first ever physiology quiz at JU, we have registered to join to start our first phase of the race which was a 100 MCQs paper on Saturday April 25th, over 50 participants have written the paper, at the end of that same day the names of the top 25 students were announced to qualify to next phase of the quiz which has been held on May 3rd 2015, 5 teams with 5 members in each team, all teams started preparing for the first ever physiology quiz at Jiangsu university.
The evening of May 3rd was a wonderful evening with colleagues and teachers all around us. By the end of that night the white had a tie with the red team at 42 points each, at where both teams were asked a tie-break question, and the red team have won first position and the white team have won second position after a tough competition with all other teams. That night was great and unforgettable.
IMSA had to emerge both teams to form one strong and capable team of 7 members to continue the race to its next phase at Xuzhou medical school. That’s how the wining team was formed, and immediately after that we have started our hard work and determination on wining the glory for our school at Xuzhou. We set up a timetable of 3 classes every week to meet and discuss what we read, with gaps In-between to prepare and be ready for the discussion, and we would determine a unit or a chapter for each meeting. And we would all go back and prepare very well that unit and be ready to explain any part of it.
Professor lee has helped us with a board meeting room provided with a projector and a computer to display our material and knowledge for better understanding of the contents. We would usually meet for about 6~7 hours continuously every time, in order to finish a unit or a chapter and solve as much as we can questions preparing ourselves for the hard time to come. And we have successfully done the whole content of physiology by June 10th (2 days before the quiz at Xuzhou), as we have planned from the very beginning.
On Friday afternoon, June 12th, we prepared ourselves with professor lee and tao yan laoshi. On the same day evening we had our last meeting just to make sure that we all aware of the contents very well and all ready and confident of winning the glory next day for Jiangsu University.
Morning June 13th, the day of victory that's how we’d like to call it. The physiology trivia at Xuzhou has conjoined 9 medical schools from different parts of China, with 5 members representing each school. some of the participated schools are Shangdong medical school, Xuzhou medical school, Tongji medical school, Suzhou medical school, Anhui medical school, the Fourth Military medical school, Qiqihar medical school and Sechow medical school, all of which have participated in the previous copies of the physiology trivia which has started out for the first time in 2003, and it’s held every year since then. Jiangsu University was the only team to be part of the trivia for first time in history.
We know how tough it was going to be, with all these experienced schools in the trivia, and that's why we have given it everything it took to be the wining team on that day. We have put too much efforts and time to be able to achieve our goal and win in our first attempt ever.
The physiology trivia at Xuzhou medical school started at 9 am carrying out its first round with a lot of pressure on all teams as it started tough and unexpected, but we have worked our way through this round with a remarkable and astonishing performance leaving the audience wowing after we get the right answer, and by this way we drew all eyes and attention on us, all members in suits with smart looking and focused expressed faces on the stage. And as we are going from round to another the questions become harder and harder.
We've reached the final round after very tough competition with all other schools. Final round where the experience played its role gave the lead for Xuzhou medical school to win the first prize, and we finished second wining the second prize.
Jiangsu university team was represented by:
1. Luqman Ahmed Mousa Al Quran

Memorable moments of emotions and feelings of victory, the thing that we have been looking and aiming for over the last few months and finally we are here wining what we came for, achieving what we've been preparing very hard for. We were all very happy to be the first group to make history for our university in the trivia. Finally our hard work and determination have been paid off marking the first win ever for Jiangsu University by this amazing team.
After the competition ended peacefully, we met with the quiz master professor Chen from Malaya university, Malaysia; we discussed with him some of the guidelines and agenda which will be carried out in the coming years, and we have invited him to be very welcome to hold the physiology trivia 2016 at Jiangsu University, and asked him to keep in touch, he was very pleased to receive such a warm welcome to Jiangsu University.
Hopefully next year we could register earlier to be part of the international physiology trivia in Malaysia, and I would like to encourage the OEC to register the next year’s participants to be able to go to Malaysia and win awards for our beloved university.
At last I'd like to thank all of our colleagues who have supported and encouraged us throughout the entire journey. Thanks to all of our physiology teachers and professor Lee who have been there for us and helped us in every way possible to reach our goal, thanks to the department of physiology for sponsoring us, thanks to all OEC teachers for their support, and thanks to all my teammates for their sacrifice and hard work, wishing them all the best in their academics and future.
And that’s the end of JU’s first victory, and we are looking forward for more and more success to come in the future.
